Progeny evaluation and early selection for plant height in Acacia mearnsii improve genetic gains

چکیده

Acacia mearnsii De Wild. is one of the most widely cultivated forest species in Brazil. Despite its importance, studies on breeding strategies for this are scarce. Therefore, aim study was to evaluate progeny and develop early selection A. mearnsii. Individuals half-sib progenies were classified according their genotypic value selected based relative performance. The additive effect only significant plant height. best plants should be height after approximately 60 days being nursery 2 years field cultivation. This strategy eliminates worse progenies, discards inferior genotypes nursery, unselected before flowering, intercrosses resulted an annual genetic gain 3% 2% diameter at breast

In vitro effect of condensed tannin extract from acacia (Acacia mearnsii) on gastrointestinal nematodes of sheep.

The aim of this study was to determine the inhibitory effects of condensed tannin extract from acacia on the feeding of first-stage larvae (L1) of Haemonchus contortus, Trichostrongylus vitrinus and Teladorsagia circumcincta. The experiment was developed such that the inhibition of feeding for each of the nematode species could be evaluated. L1 recovered from fecal samples from a donor with mon...

Tannic extract potential as natural wood preservative of Acacia mearnsii.

High toxicity of the preservatives most frequently used in wood treatment and the resulting risks of handling pose a threat to small producers and to the environment. In an attempt to mitigate these problems, the present study was conducted with the objective of evaluating the preservative effect of tannic extract on biodeterioration of Acacia mearnsii wood. For this purpose, untreated and pres...

Assessing nitrogen fixation in mixed- and single-species plantations of Eucalyptus globulus and Acacia mearnsii.

Mixtures of Eucalyptus globulus Labill. and Acacia mearnsii de Wildeman are twice as productive as E. globulus monocultures growing on the same site in East Gippsland, Victoria, Australia, possibly because of increased nitrogen (N) availability owing to N(2) fixation by A. mearnsii. To investigate whether N(2) fixation by A. mearnsii could account for the mixed-species growth responses, we asse...

GIS-Based Multi Criteria Evaluation for Thermal Power Plant Site Selection in Kahnuj County, SE Iran

Choosing a location for a power plant site is a complex task that involves evaluation of multiple factors, which should satisfy a number of economic and environmental requirements. The main aim of this study is to determine the best possible candidates for thermal power plant sites using Multi-criteria Evaluation and Geographic Information System (GIS) in Kahnuj County in the southeast of Iran....

Effect of bull performance on progeny early growth and genetic relationships between bull and progeny traits

Records on four bulls and 96 of their progeny born from 2005 to 2011 with pedigree information were used to estimate the impact of bull performance on progeny early growth and the genetic relationships between traits of bull and their progeny. Traits included in this study were metabolic body weight, feed intake and residual feed intake (RFI) for bull performance and birth weight and average da...
